People who live in the warmer and muggier elements of the United States (New Orleans is good example) have long been intimate with the effects of high moisture content air. If the moisture content of the air is above 50% it will give hope or courage to the breeding of dust mites which have been linked to a assortment of breathing problems. The response of some buyers has been to buy whole house dehumidifiers.
A prime example of this was when New Orleans residents returned to their homes after Hurricane Katrina a lot of of the homes were uninhabitable due to the fact that mold had infested the homes to such an extent that the home itself had become a health hazard. Abandoning these homes was the only option. Even in circumstances that are not rather as uttermost as this damp air may make any household miserable and lead to a profusion of molds, fungi and mildew.
Whole house dehumidifiers are installed as percentage of the home’s central heating system, or may be portable but with a huge sufficient capacity to dehumidify an entire home, these are dissimilar to the littler portable units which are suitable for dehumidifying a single room. In Southern States of America house humidifiers are necessitated year round so the demand for energy effective and authenti units is exceedingly high. There are assorted tell tale signs that you might need to look into the buy of a house dehumidifier. Signs include condensation on water pipes, damp spots on ceilings or walls, the presence of mold or mildew or a more or less ‘sticky’ sentiment to walls and floors.
When choosing a dehumidifier a good rule of thumb is to choose from amidst the better known brands. One of these is Haier, which offers amongst the best home dehumidifiers, with portable units ranging from those with a 30 pint capacity to units with a 60 pint capacity. Always make sure that you are intimate with the cubic footage of the home prior to buy as a unit which is not ranked for whole home usage will merely be a waste of money. The Haier units for instance would be more suitable for basement or single room applications.
Another important point to consider when purchasing house dehumidifiers is noise. A noisy unit will make life unbearable, exceptionally if it is running continuously as a lot of of the units are designed to do. The buyer must likewise take into account the electricity consumption of the unit purchased. Larger units cool expeditiously but are energy hogs, in particular at startup when the unit consumes the most electricity, so altho they need not run perpetually that spike in energy consumption when the unit firstborn starts up for the most part cancels out the fact that don’t need to in operation continuously. The little units on the other hand, need to run all the time or for much longer periods of time than the more prominent ones so consume more hours of electricity, but at a lower rate. It is up to the buyer to make the choice.
Whole house dehumidifiers may make life bearable in climates where there are seasonal spikes in the moisture content of the air, or where sub tropical or tropical conditions are a fact of life year round. Given the selection of dehumidifiers on the market choosing the best home dehumidifier may be a daunting task.

Great Product By Robin A. Bruzga I received this dehumidifier a few weeks ago for use in my basement apartment that had gotten damp with all the rain this summer. It has been running non-stop since. It works great! I have been rotating it around the apartment into dissimilar rooms that need to arid out and it speedily fills up with water after a few hours beeps and I empty the bucket. the only drawback is that is does give off a lot of heat, which I guess all dehumidifiers do, but I still gave it 5 stars!

Very positive review after a few months (edited) By Kid_Again I received this unit yesterday so this is a preliminary assessment. The reason why I necessitated a dehumidifier is the one that we have in our basement is in a literal sense 20 years old. It’s so old, it doesn’t have a piece of plastic on it but it refuses to die. While I didn’t test the old unit for electrical draw, my on a monthly basis electric bills are too high. I unplugged/put on a timer each appliance that I thought could bestow and it came back down to my faith that my old dehumidifier is an energy hog.
Our basement is HUGE but I still only purchased the 30 pint unit because I’d rather run a little unit more ofttimes than cycle a more spectacular unit. Same conception as a house air conditioner – and a dehumidifier is a miniature air conditioner. Besides, I’d need the Mother of All Dehumidifiers to exclusively arid the basement and that’s not going to happen.
Even altho the old unit had just been running before I installed the Soleus, the new hstat read 70%. I don’t genuinely care if that’s exact or not, the basement just smelled damp. I installed a drip hose to run into the laundry tub, set the hstat to 55% and went to bed. This morning, it’s unquestionably drier but I didn’t bother to check the hstat. I assume the unit ran all night.
The impressive point is that I applied the same drain hose on both dehumidifiers and, subjectively, the Soleus is draining a LOT more water than the old unit. Plus it is VERY quiet.
Once I get the feel of the hstat sensitivity, then I ‘ll set it and forget it so I may evaluate the energy usage. I know that I could buy an energy meter but I’ll just save the $50.
The unit is also light which is primary because I put the unit midway up the wall on a shelf (to drain into the tub). The supplied wheels must move very well on carpets but mine is static. BTW, based on my own reading, the Energy Star rating means very little but it’s better to buy an appliance with the sticker.
Thanks to all those who antecedently reviewed this product and helped me make my decision!
I’ve altered this since I’ve employed the scheme for a few months. Previously, I was faulty in saying the blower stays on constantly when the dehumidifier isn’t running. Not true, don’t know where I got that. All I may say is….dagnabbit but this does pull a lot of water from the air, and it uses less electricity than my old one.

the little dehumidifier that could By Tech Coordinator this little wonder does a great job. I use it in my 20×40 man cave and it keeps it very dry. It is a little noisy for my taste and when we are occupying it I ordinarily shut it down becuase of the fan noise. Also if it is running the room temperature rises a few degrees over the week. We like it when it is 67-68 degrees and if it is on all week the temperature stays around 71. I attached a garden hose to it and it has worked flawlessly over last month.
