Some of the premium features include low temperature operation, automatic shut off to prevent overflow, rear direct drain for ceaseless operation, LED display and an Auto arid function that removes residuary moisture to prevent bacteria & mold. The fan passes room air over the sensors 24/7 which allows for a more precise reading. As a result, the compressor only runs when needed.
The Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70 Pint Dehumidifier is one of the best dehumidifiers for basements amongst the a great deal of portable dehumidifiers on the market today. While no dehumidifier is flawless, the Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier is one of the best all round performers, is competitively priced and very well thought of by the a great deal of buyers who have written dehumidifier reviews of the FAD704TDP.
The most mutual reason for buying a portable dehumidifier in the USA is for use in a basement. For this reason the majority of portable dehumidifier purchases are of more spectacular capacity units, in the 50 to 70 pint range. Smaller dehumidifiers are less usual and their use is confined principally to little areas of the home, with an isolated humidity problem, and areas outside the home, such as garages, workshops, vehicles (particularly RV’s) and boats.
A big capacity portable dehumidifier is a perfectly good choice for use in a basement provided two indispensable conditions are met. First, the basement ought to be little sufficient for the dehumidifier to control the humidity without having to run continuously; second, and even more important, the air temperature in the basement ought to stay at a minimum of 60F degrees (15-16C) at all, or closely all, times.
Let us take these two conditions in turn. If the area of your basement is too big for a 70 pint dehumidifier it will run all the time and struggle to maintain relative humidity at 50% or less, the level necessary to prevent mold and mildew and to restrict the dust mite population. The dehumidifier will be costly to run, will wear out within a year or two and will neither protect your property adequately nor control allergens to the level necessitated to safeguard those who are sensitive.
If you consider buying two portable dehumidifiers for a more spectacular basement my counsel to you is don’t. A purpose-built basement dehumidifier will always be less highpriced in the longer term in spite of having a much higher ticket price.
If your basement temperature falls under 60F degrees and stays there for weeks and months at a time a portable dehumidifier is a very poor investment. Although portable dehumidifiers have an “auto-defrost” function this does not make them suitable for operation in low temperatures, it merely protects the appliance from damage. Once again you will get far better service and value for cash from a basement dehumidifier which is designed and built to be effective at cooler temperatures.
So, if you have a somewhat warm basement that is not too huge why must you consider a Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70 Pint Dehumidifier? It has all the features you would suppose it to have; Energy Star certification, an adaptable humidistat, neverending drainage capability, 24 hour timer, easy to use electronic controls, an anti-microbial filter, a digital humidity read-out and, of course, auto-defrost. The only thing missing is auto-restart, so if the power fails you will have to restart it manually.
None of these features is special in a room dehumidifier but all are necessary or desirable. The FAD704TDP is also reasonably quiet, more dependable than most and an worthy of acceptance or satisfactory weight. All in all it is a well balanced appliance and is available from a great deal of merchants who sells goods at retail at under $200. This represents magnificent value for cash which is the indispensable reason why I commend this dehumidifier.
If you wish to consider substitute brands I would commend the Danby DDR7009REE 70 Pint Dehumidifier, in regards to which I could make much the same remarks. It is available at a similar price and does include auto-restart. Of the alien imports my bestloved is the Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier. This unit is in a similar class to the two US made models but is rather more expensive. It justifies it is higher price by the inclusion of an integral condensate pump with a 15 foot vertical lift capacity so if you do not have a convenient, floor level drain you may wish to consider this dehumidifier; in my sentiment amid the best dehumidifier imports on the market.
The other substitute is to go for the less powerful Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50 Pint Dehumidifier. Unless you have a somewhat little basement I would advise caution here. While the 50 pint model is as sound as it is “big brother” the modest saving on the ticket price is likely to be wiped out by higher energy costs.
Smaller dehumidifiers use less energy per hour but are less energy effective than more spectacular units. This is true disregarding of the manufacturer. The Energy factor of the Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier is 1.6 litres (of water) per kilowatt hour. The 70 pint model has an energy factor of 1.8L/kw hr (figures from Energy Star). This means that the 70 pint unit extracts 12.5% more water per kw hr than the 50 pint model. In any basement the 50 pint dehumidifier will run for more hours per day than the 70 pint unit. Unless your basement is comfortably within the size range with which a 50 pint dehumidifier may deal effortlessly it will be more effective, and cheaper, to buy the FAD704TDP.

Continous Drain Does Not Work As Advertised By C. Rieger I putchased this unit as it was specified as having three features I wanted in a basement unattended dehumidifier a) automati restart on power failure b) continous gravity drain and c) automatic defrost. When I received the unit and hooked up the continous drain hose the unit continued to fill up it is bucket and automati stop when the bucket filled up. I checked assorted times to make sure I had hooked up the automati drain as per istructions which were very straight forward. Finally convinced I had hooked up the hose correctly I called Danby client care in Toronto. Got through to them very quickly. The person I spoke with explained that, yes, this model was having ” developing problems” and some units were not automati draining, but they were working on a “fix”. He offered to take my name and mail me the repair as soon as it was out. When I asked him how long the fix has been worked on and when it would be available , he responded ” for various months” and ” any week now”. Well not more than willing to wait for the “fix” I asked and got my cash back from the reseller I had purchased the unit from. So before I would buy this unit ( which appeared rather solid) if the continous drain feature is important to you I would check and make sure the “fix” is in.

Lasted one summer and is Noisy By RN Warning. I purchased a Danby dehumidifier after magnificent buyer report reviews and research. It worked GREAT for one summer. But by fall I noticed this thing wasn’t working as good. I saw less water being drawn out. I thought it was because temperatures were dropping in Chicago, so I packed it up for the winter. Well spring comes and it didn’t work at all. I called Danby and they stated to send it to a local shop. I searched for days to find a shop. Most companies stated it just takes too long to get constituents from Danby and they stopped doing repairs. After calling Danby again, I found a shop in North Chicago area, I live in the south suburbs. So I packed this heavy piece of machinery, yes it weighs with regards to 80 pounds, in my CUV and fought traffic on the Dan Ryan. Got a call back a few days later stating the warranty wasn’t valid and it would cost around $150 to repair. Luckily the proprietor was legit and stated that these things never last long. He gets a heap of complaints and he commended I buy a new dehumidifier instead. Don’t buy a Danby in the US. It is too tough to get constituents and their warranty is a joke, 6 months. I noticed now they are 1 year, but Whirlpool units have up to 5 years. If you buy this unit get an extended warranty, I didn’t and regret it. I would just stay away from Danby dehumidifiers.
I just purchased a Frigidaire unit from Amazon with a 3 year warranty. So far it is working like a champ and it is MUCH LESS noisy. Now I am realizing I made a big fault buying a Danby. I thought all dehumidifiers were noisy, my whirlpool I substituted was piercing and the Danby was even louder. The Frigidaire unit makes so much less noise. So another reason to stay away from Danby.

Doing an excelent Job By Ed Hoar This unit cost more than my other choices, but I have had my former dehumidifier for over 30 years and I thought energy consumption was going to be a substantial part of the cost. The unit appears well made, is easy to carry around (although heavy) and the humidity controls are simple. When on a hard surface, the unit is easy to roll about.
I do not use nor suppose to use the timer function or the remote control. The unit came in half the time promised, and I was competent to install it before departing on a trip. The set up was easy and the instructions adequate. I use the drain rather than the bucket. I like the way the drain is solidly attached to the unit rather than to the bucket. The hose is an unimpressive plastic unit but I think the attachment is a usual bib thread so I suppose if there is a problem I may attach a ordinary hose.
The display is easy to read but a little awkward as it displays five items with only two displays. The humidity is normally displayed on one unit and pressing the up down buttons changes the humidly set point. Thus checking the humidity set point may modify it. The labels for the buttons are iconic so I was puzzled by the timer button which I don’t use and didn’t expect. The unit may be set to begin in the future and run for a fixed time. Why I can’t imagine. Save the instructions for this function. A reasonable betterment would be to place the basic instructions on the back of the unit so 20 years from now you may find them.
The power failed once since installation and the unit came back on to default settings which are reasonable though I need to lower them. Remembering the set point through a power failure would be a nice improvement. Although I may tell the humidity has noticeable bettered since installing the unit, I can’t comment on how well it works. I don’t empty the bucket nor may I listen it as it is in the basement. The only noise is the fan noise which seems reasonable. The air exit is straight up which means a minimum of distraction or blowing papers around.
I did not give this unit the 5th star because I do not detect it in action nor may I compare it to other units.
