There are a lot of American families that get together at Christmas and snug up with their hot chocolate and eggnog to watch The Polar Express. Well now the Christmas movie is available to watch in the wonders of 3D, so all aboard!

Remember how much we all loved experiencing the magical train traveling to the North Pole? Now we may experience the joy and wonder all over again on that magical traveling with the Hollywood magic of 3D and yes it is wondrous all over again.

Sure we all recognise the story of a young guy just at the age of doubt but still wanting to believe in the magic of Christmas. Of course this has happened to us all and we recognise the feeling.

Experience the sentiment yourself as on Christmas Eve just as our young doubter has. The walls of your bedroom commence to shake and windows start out to rattle and as the noise and shaking gets louder and louder you listen that intimate whistle blows and you through on your robe and run downstairs and out the front door and in your front yard that magical Christmas Train is pulling up in your front yard.

The conductor calls out all aboard and you in pajamas and robe still unbelieving spot all the other children and at the last second you climb on board to join in on the adventure. Still marveling why no other fellow member of your household heard the train.

You see the conductor coming to punch tickets for all the passengers and he reaches you and he tells you to check your pockets. Magically you reach into your pocket and there is your golden ticket to this magical adventure.

Then a call comes out “Hot Chocolate Anyone”? Any you see a team of magical waiters appear to serve every one a good deal of hot chocolate. The show put on by the waiters is just so unbelievable that you don’t recognise which you like better, the show or the hot chocolate.

As the journeying proceeds the ride feels like you are on the most stimulating roller coaster of your life. Then when the sentiment the train has no way to stop. It mysteriously stops so it does not hit a herd of caribou. The train waits in a patient manner for them to clear the tracks to proceed on it is journey.

As the traveling proceeds attempting to make up time the Polar Express jumps the tracks and goes sliding all over a frozen lake sliding sideways shaking and shuddering all the way.

But miraculously the train does arrive at the North Pole after a very stimulating journeying and you and all the children in truth do get to see Santa Claus and as you begin to believe. The bells begin to ring and you listen them too.

Comparison of on board microphone vs. ATR3350 microphone on Canon HF200

I test the microphone on a Canon HF200 camcorder at the beach with both Ocean and Creek noise in the background. The divergence is rather remarkable. Don’t turn your speakers up too loud, as the volume changes rather a bit when I go from on board to lavalier microphone. Note that I had to genuinely LOWER the volume for the duration of edit because the Audio Technica mic would have clipped, otherwise.

During video editing I made the following adjustments:

Sound track +4db (to compensate for excessively quiet on board microphone)
Just the ATR3350 segment -3.4db (to recompense for the Audio Technica microphone being so loud)

Final analysis: If I was using JUST the lavalier microphone, no adjustments neccessary and it would have been right on the money. At $24 (today’s price on Amazon) it’s a no-brainer. If you have issues with volume narrating your videos and your camcorder has a microphone in port, go for it.

Note: This microphone is mono, so you’ll need to rectify it in edit (for me it was making left channel into both left and right. Very easy to do.)

Great lapel mic for the price

The Audio Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone appears to be a almost identical alternate lavalier mic from the not long ago discontinued Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone.

Reading a heap of blog counsel regarding video podcasting and playing around a bit with making YouTube videos, “sound” in video is ordinarily the portion that makes video quality bad. So I was looking for a reasonably price lapel mic to use. The ATR-3350 is rather inexpensive taking into account that you may without apparent effort spend $200 for a professional model lapel mic.

If you read a great deal of of the “1″ (hate it) reviews from the ATR-35S, they pretty much all related to “low volume issues”. You may see some similar reviews here as time goes on. Plugging the ATR-3350 directly into my Dell laptop PC mic in or camera mic in, I likewise thought the volume is not high enough. However, plugging it into my video camera, it sounded great. Just the right volume. Not too deafening or soft.

I went to the support website for ATR and asked my question on volume on my laptop PC mic in. Support on the ATR website was good. I got a quick response back on my question in regards to volume on my laptop. The counsel was “Look for MIC Boost in the Advanced Controls for microphone in the Volume Control window of Voice recording underneath the Voice tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties of Windows to boost the level of a microphone. (Windows XP example given.)”.

I’m giving it “5″ for the product giving careful consideration to value for the price and the help I got. I’m sure the quality does not get anyplace near professional mics with XLR inputs. Those mics are in a dissimilar class. Certainly not in this price range.

Be careful if you have a rolling chair and use this mic near your PC. The cord is thin and probably easy to make the mic “nonfunctional” if you were to roll over the cable with all your weight pinching the thin cord under a wheel.

Great for the money

Purchased this mic in order to do consultations and video demonstrations and it has been excellent. Have a professional Shure wireless set up as well, but have found this to be an outstanding substitute when I need to move quickly. It allows me to use my Sony HD handycam with a minimum of further and added instrumentation and allows for a fast set up. Have used the mic for approximately 10 hours and the battery has not yet run out. Be sure to buy further and added button batteries when you buy this, though. They always run out right when you don’t have them on hand. L-45 batteries are actually inexpensive. I purchased 50 for underneath $10 here on Amazon. Would unquestionably commend this mic as a primary or backup mic for any prosumer set up where the subject isn’t going to be moving around (interviews, training, etc.)
